Department/Program Information

The Research Approval team makes determinations of institutional requirements for research authorization and liaises with multiple stakeholders in support of research approval processes. Reporting to the Manager, Research Approval and Contracts, The Research Approval Officer undertakes all elements of Lawson’s research approval process ensuring
efficiency, adherence to the compliance framework, and client service. The Research Approval Officer reviews research studies to assign approval requirements, liaises with stakeholders, acts as a system administrator of the Lawson research approval software tools, implements system improvements and develops documentation, and ensures user training tools and support.

Job Description

The Research Approval team makes determinations of institutional requirements for research authorization and liaises with multiple stakeholders in support of research approval processes. Reporting to the Manager, Research Approval and Contracts. The Research Approval Senior Officer is a new role created by Lawson to address the increasing complexity of institutional research authorization requirements.  The Research Approval Senior Officer, reports to the Manager, Research Approval and Contracts, supervises a team, trouble-shoots team challenges and undertakes all elements of Lawson’s research approval process with a view to compliance, risk management and continuous process improvement. The Senior Research Approval Officer monitors process metrics and implements changes to streamline processes and supports the team in providing excellent service to our research community.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a Degree in Biomedical Sciences.
• 4-5 years’ demonstrated experience in administration of clinical research
• Proven knowledge of research environment, regulations, guidelines and policies governing clinical research
• ACRP or SoCRA Certification preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of business processes, organizational and time management skills with exceptional
attention to detail and accuracy
• Computer software experience including databases, Microsoft Office, and e-filing
• Experience in data analytics
• Experience with database management preferred
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including ability to support approval process software users
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
