Received my Medical Degree in Brazil in 1977 and completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1981. Hired at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1982.
In 1989, began my fellowship training and PhD in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University Of British Columbia. I returned to the University of Rio de Janeiro became involved in the planning and design of a new perinatal hospital. As Chair-Chief of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, I created a study centre where I developed a thriving Continuing Education Program. I earned a MBA in Health and assumed numerous demanding administrative and teaching posts in Brazil.
Since 2009, I hold a full time position as a Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Am Head of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division; Co-Director of the Ultrasound Department; the Program Director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship. Am a scientist at the Maternal, Fetal & Newborn Program of the Children Health Research Institute and an Associate Scientist of Lawson Health Research Institute.
I am a periodical proof-reader on many editorial boards of several journals such as Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, Journal of Perinatal Medicine, Femina and JAMB. Am an active member of multiple professional associations many of which are Canadian (SOGC, RCPSC, APOG, CNMNCH).
Also involved with overseas organizations such as the Technical Chamber of Gynecology & Obstetrics – Medical Council of Rio de Janeiro,Brazil, The National Commission for High-Risk Pregnancy of the Brazilian Federation of Obstetrics & Gynecology,the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology in the UK, King’s College – Fetal Medicine Center in the UK, the Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and the Brazilian Federation of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
