Interdisciplinary musculoskeletal biomechanics through IN VIVO (Imaging, Gait, Functional Metrics), IN SILICO (Musculoskeletal Modelling, Finite Element Simulations), and IN VITRO (Cadaveric Joint Loading Mechanics, Surgical Simulations) methods.
Dr. Geoffrey Ng is an Assistant Professor in Medical Biophysics, Medical Imaging, Surgery at Western University, and specializes in musculoskeletal biomechanics, orthopaedics, joint preservation, and implant design – aspiring to outline a path for injury prevention and healthy aging. He examines the effects of musculoskeletal structure and function on joint loading mechanics to improve injury diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies.
Dr. Ng received his PhD as Valedictorian from the University of Ottawa (Mechanical Engineering) working with the Human Movement Biomechanics Laboratory and Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. He then completed his postdoctoral research program at Imperial College London (London, UK) with the MSk Lab (Surgery and Cancer) and The Biomechanics Group (Mechanical Engineering).
He recently received the 2021 Excellence in Basic Science Research Award (Arthroscopy Journal), 2021 Implants Section Best Podium Presentation Award (Orthopaedic Research Society), the coveted 2019 New Investigator Recognition Award (Orthopaedic Research Society), and was co-recipient of the prestigious 2018 Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons). He also received honours from the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society, British Hip Society, and British Orthopaedic Research Society.
